Jeff Roberston, Lead Labor Relations Manager at AT&T and a fundraiser for The Arc of San Francisco
Like many of us, Jeff Robertson’s workday is a blur of activity that doesn’t leave him much extra time. But he thinks it’s important to reach out to others when possible. He did just that—and raised a lot of money, too—when he created his own fundraising page in support of clients of The Arc. Jeff spoke with us about what “giving back” means to him, and the importance of lending a hand where you can.
Q. Why did you create a fundraising page for The Arc of San Francisco?
A. I just thought it might do some good for people. I’ve always had a special empathy for people with developmental disabilities, and I don’t mind asking people to support a cause I believe in. We’re so blessed in this country; what little I can do to help means a lot to me.
Q. What is involved in setting up a personal fundraising page and how do you get the word out?
A. It took me about 10 minutes. You can go on any number of sites: FacebookCauses, YourCause, Network for Good or Razoo and find an easy template to fill in. To get the word out, I include a link in my email signature. So anyone I correspond with—work, family, friends—they all see the link and just click on it to make a donation. Network for Good takes care of the rest. Anyone can do it, and I hope more people will.
Q. How much have you raised to date?
A. Close to $1,000. It really starts to add up.
Q. What advice do you have for people who want to have their own fundraising page on behalf of The Arc of San Francisco?
A. Have fun with it. It doesn’t take much effort and you’ll feel great doing it. It’s a really good way to let people know about a cause that’s important to support and you’ll be surprised at the positive response.
