Welcome to The Arc of San Francisco: The Place for Possibilities

The Arc of San Francisco was founded in 1951 by a small group of parents who were concerned about the lack of services for their children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy & other developmental disabilities.

Since then, we’ve become a primary resource for people with disabilities in San Francisco and San Mateo counties, serving over 500 clients every day. Our goal is to provide the services and supports that empower our clients to make the most of their abilities; learning new skills, holding productive jobs, and living ordinary lives with dignity and pride in our community.

“My Hardest Workers”—Interview at The Sequoias

The Arc’s housekeeping crew is part of a large staff that maintains clean linen for over 300 residents at The Sequoias, a life-care facility located on Geary Street in San Francisco. We spoke with Manager Denise March about the value of having employees from The Arc on her team.

Q. How did The Arc get started with The Sequoias?
A. Our Human Resources Director knew people from The Arc and introduced us to the idea of hiring people with developmental disabilities. It was new to us, so we had an in-service training and tried to educate everyone here about their new co-workers. It was helpful; we were very comfortable when the clients began working for us.
