Senior Services

The Arc’s Senior Services offers integrated social, recreational and educational activities for people with developmental disabilities over age 45 years at their own facility on Bay Street in the busy Fisherman’s Wharf area.  Seniors with The Arc also participate at other culturally diverse senior centers and park/recreational facilities throughout San Francisco, enjoying many opportunities to meet new friends and stay engaged and healthy as they age.

Activities for seniors include:

  • Gardening
  • Aging education
  • SPCA visits
  • Dance and music classes
  • Movie Day
  • Volunteering
  • Visits to bookmobile
  • Cooking lessons
  • Self-advocacy education & activities
  • Meditation & relaxation classes
  • Community outings to museums, shopping centers, parks and special events
  • Painting, drawing & ceramics

Our Senior Services program promotes the social and physical well-being of our older clients with disabilities so they can maintain their independence and enjoy a better quality of life through healthy living and ongoing opportunities to learn and grow with their peers and with friends in the community.

On-Site Nurse

Many of The Arc’s seniors face the challenges of chronic illness, reduced mobility, special dietary needs and other health issues. The Senior Services staff nurse visits senior clients twice a week to monitor health and keep caregivers and family members up-to-date on health conditions.

Health and Wellness Services

Many of The Arc’s seniors are enrolled in our Health & Wellness Services where advocates assist clients in achieving optimal health. Through ongoing monitoring, regular screenings, support at Doctor appointments and nutritional education, clients get support to improve their health and improve their quality of life.
